The Northern Virginia Majestics Super 20 League team received the final spot in the USL Super 20 North American Finals via an ’at large’ bid for their third place finish in the South Atlantic Division. The Majestics went undefeated in their final six games of the season to earn the berth in the continental championship tournament.
The Super 20 Majestics finished the season 4-3-3, scoring 35 goals and allowing only 16 during their 2008 campaign. After struggling in the initial part of the season, the Majestics garnered 3 wins and 3 ties to go unbeaten in the final run of the season. The Majestics last lost was a 2-1 decision in June to the West Virginia Illusion, a result Northern Virginia avenged six days later to begin their successful streak.
The Majestics join the Northern Virginia Royals Super 20 team in the finals, as the men’s side qualified outright by finishing second in the South Atlantic Division.
The USL Super 20 North American Finals will be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is scheduled to run from July 31st through August 3rd. A total of sixteen U20 men’s teams and eight U20 women’s teams from around the United States and Canada will face off over the five day event. For the first time in USL history the Super-20 North American Finals will run in conjunction with the 14th Annual W-League finals, creating a dynamic soccer atmosphere on the Atlantic Coast later this month.
