Despite drawing the match even early in the first half, the Northern Virginia Majestics were unable to contain the pesky Freedom Futures attack and fell 4-1 to Washington Saturday night at Hellwig Memorial Park. Two goals by Futures forward Omolyn Davis led the visitors to victory over the home side Majestics.
Washington wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Davis made her first mark of the evening in the 11th minute. The George Mason University product found herself at the receiving end of a failed clearance, and buried the ball home to give Washington the early 1-0 lead.
The Northern Virginia offense sensed the urgency and seemingly sprang to life shortly after the goal. The offensive pressure soon yielded a corner kick for the home side, and Majestics midfielder Kimmy Moss drove a hard, low cross from the ensuing free kick. As she has throughout the season, Northern Virginia forward Ashley Johnson found a way to score, deftly touching a glancing header into the side netting of the Washington goal for the equalizer in the 16th minute.
The Futures answered five minutes later as Lydia Hastings scored on a pass from teammate Julia Bouchelle for the ultimate game winner.
The Majestics nearly drew the match even again two minutes later when forward Kelly Johnson stole the ball from a Washington defender and found herself one-on-one with the Futures keeper Nikki Weiss. Johnson maneuvered around Weiss and fired a low, driven shot at the goal, only to see it deflect off the goalpost.
Two goals early in the second half ended the Majestics hopes. Meghan Lenczyk grabbed the third goal for the visitors and Davis garnered her second of the evening, both in a two minute span culminating from a Northern Virginia defensive lapse to give the visitors the victory.
The Northern Virginia Majestics will return to United Soccer Leagues W-League action next summer. The 2011 season schedule will be released in late winter/early spring.
